If you're a grandparent with a large family, you likely take pride in all your grandchildren. As part of your estate plan, you may want to divide your finances and property among those grandkids.

Single Parents and Estate Planning

One thing that single parents in Colorado should make a priority is estate planning. Even though the thought of not being around for their kids is not a pleasant one, the idea of having the courts choose someone random to raise their kids is even more distressing. Careful consideration should be given to the distant future so they can make plans to protect their children.

But experts warn that other commonly used nonprobate transfer estate-planning tools can cause confusion and legal disputes over the legitimacy of the beneficiary title. It's best to work with a knowledgeable and experienced attorney in the use of the DR 2009 form for naming a beneficiary title to a motor vehicle.

Your New Year to-do list may include getting an estate plan. The process of putting together the documents that make up this plan is often overlooked or postponed. As a result, if you find yourself pushing this item lower and lower on your list, you are not alone.

Prince fortune diminished by lack of estate planning

The celebrated singer Prince, who at only 57 years old accidently died in April of an accidental opioid overdose at his Minnesota recording studio, was unquestionably a brilliant musician. Unfortunately, he was not as wise when it came to planning his estate, as he famously died without a will that could have directed where he wanted his sizeable assets to go upon his death.
